Designing Florida Butterfly Garden
How can I design the best landscape of South Florida garden?

I have about 1 / 4 acre of my backyard south Florida. We wire everywhere, with the back of our property in a channel. I'd love to have a place for children to play, an orchard and a garden of butterflies. And I would limit the amount of grass – but there is sooo much to do. Where do I start? I do not have the money to hire someone and want to do it in stages, but work out the overall plan before you start anything. Anyone have any idea how to start? Should I start working in 5'x5 'sections? I'm at a loss and the season already well on its way. Thanks

may be worth some money to hire a landscape architect. if you are really against it, make a list of things you want in space and the things you would like to happen or not happen in space. this is called a program. Next, spend a lot of time in space and discover the best places for hearings, the spaces that need shade, so close to a scale drawing of your garden boundary and start filling the space with elements of the program, keeping in mind the views, slopes, exposure to sun seems you want to go to unsustainable path, in order to go to a local nursery (Home Depot, not something local, where people know what they are selling) and ask to see a selection of native plants. small flowers like tiny butterflies, so include Lantana or something that grows in Florida. find out where to place your garden plants depending on the shade, sun, wind exposure, etc. .. is a complex task. you may want to do it stages so that you can find out what is working on a small scale rather than doing the whole yard, and then realize you made a mistake. As I said, is a very good investment to hire a professional … increasing the value of your home and make sure the space is designed right. landscape designers many offer consulting by the hour for really reasonable fees. drawings do not it, but you get a great idea, and the professional is able to identify the main problems with your site if any. good luck!
